Our approach to health-environment issues
PIRSE explores the multiple dimensions of health-environment interactions through an integrative perspective that encompasses the full conceptual spectrum developed over recent decades. Our approach embraces both the classical issues of environmental health and the more systemic approaches developed recently.
This integrated vision draws on complementary conceptual frameworks that enrich our understanding of contemporary challenges. Planetary health broadens the perspective to the links between ecosystem modifications due to human activities and their consequences on the health of living beings and ecosystems. The "One Health" approach aims to optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems by recognizing that protecting human health requires protecting animal health and their interactions with the environment.
This holistic perspective considers multiple interconnected determinants: climate change, biodiversity preservation, food systems, urbanization dynamics, and socio-economic factors. This interdisciplinary approach, which integrates natural sciences, medicine, ecology, and social sciences, constitutes a prerequisite for understanding contemporary health challenges and developing sustainable responses for the health of populations and ecosystems.
